Climbing Higher

Spanish

We feel that in any environment, speaking a language can open the door to a whole new world. Whether on holiday, meeting people at work, socialising or discovering other cultures, your child’s language skills will widen their horizons, create new opportunities and increase their appreciation of what’s out there. With this in mind, all of our students in years 7-9 study Spanish for two hours a week and there is an increasingly large number of students continuing to study languages at GCSE level with super results.

At Whitworth Community High School, we offer Spanish to GCSE with all students starting their language journey in Year 7 when they join.

We use "Viva 1, 2 & 3" to deliver the KS3 Spanish course. All of these courses offer a wealth of interactive ICT opportunities for our pupils. We are offering our GCSE course in Spanish following the new AQA GCSE specification.

Lessons are delivered using a wide variety of teaching methods, including role play, mime, games, flashcards and electronically produced materials. The target language is also regularly used to give instructions and to communicate in the classroom.
