Whitworth Community High School works with a variety of outside agencies to seek advice and support so that the needs of all children are fully understood and met. Outside agencies include (but not exhaustive):
School Nurse – The School Nurse, Mrs Marie McKenna is assigned tour school and can be contacted via the SENCo. We also have access to a range of other specialist nurses e.g. Epilepsy and Diabetes.
Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) – We have access to teams in both Lancashire and Rochdale depending on pupil home address. Support may include the following:
• Assessing students’ individual communication needs and providing WCHS and home with a plan identifying strategies and targets to work towards
• Providing resources for school and or home to work on with the student
Educational Psychology – We have access to Educational Psychology services in both Lancashire and Rochdale. The SENCo consults with the Educational Psychologist on a termly basis. The SENCO attends cluster meetings where student needs are discussed. The Educational Psychologist consults with all stakeholders to identify areas of need and effective strategies to support student learning.
Specialist Teaching Service – WCHS generally consults with ‘Inclusion Solutions’. This service includes support for children/young people with a variety of different needs. This ensures students have the appropriate resources and support needed to have full access to learning.
ELCAS (East Lancashire Child and Adolescent Service) (Lancashire)- The professionals in this service can support young people where there are concerns about their emotional wellbeing and mental health.
Child & Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) (Rochdale) The professionals in this service can support young people where there are concerns about their emotional wellbeing and mental health. They can also work with families and carers.
