Whitworth Community High School

Climbing Higher

Spanish

At Whitworth Community High School, we believe that learning a language broadens horizons and equips students with valuable life skills. All students study Spanish from Year 7, building strong foundations in phonics, vocabulary and grammar in line with the National Curriculum for MFL.

Our KS3 curriculum is delivered through Viva 1, 2 & 3, which provide engaging topics, cultural insights and clear progression. Students develop confidence in listening, speaking, reading and writing while gaining an appreciation of the wider Spanish-speaking world.

At GCSE, learners follow the new AQA Spanish specification, continuing to build their fluency and cultural understanding. Lessons are interactive and inclusive, using a range of methods such as role play, games, and digital activities. Teachers routinely use Spanish in the classroom to create an authentic learning environment.

Our aim is to inspire a love of languages, promote curiosity about other cultures and give students the communication skills they need to thrive in an increasingly global society.
