LAC
Educational achievement and future life chances for Looked After Children (LAC) and Previously Looked After Children (PLAC) are a key priority at Whitworth Community High School. We recognise that pupils who are, or have been looked after may face additional challenges and therefore require enhanced understanding and support to enable them to thrive.
Whitworth Community High School is committed to providing stability, safety, and positive experiences for all pupils. We place strong emphasis on building trusting relationships, ensuring that every child feels genuinely valued, listened to, and cared for as an individual. Our approach is rooted in kindness, empathy, and high expectations, creating an inclusive environment in which pupils feel secure and confident to succeed.
To support LAC and PLAC effectively, we aim to:
- Encourage pupils to reach their full potential and make strong progress academically, socially, and emotionally.
- Provide high-quality teaching and a broad, balanced curriculum that meets individual needs and statutory requirements.
- Plan and deliver targeted support for LAC and PLAC in a realistic and effective way, making best use of school resources.
- Promote a positive, inclusive culture across all aspects of school life.
- Support pupils in developing their cultural, moral, and social understanding, helping them to build confidence, resilience, and positive relationships.
Through close partnership with carers, social workers, and external agencies, we work to ensure that LAC and PLAC are fully supported to achieve success and prepare for their future beyond school.
