Inclusion
WCHS Inclusion Vision
Inclusivity is at the heart of the culture at Whitworth Community High School. Also, diversity is celebrated, thus ensuring that every student feels safe, valued, and empowered to thrive. We live by our motto "Climbing Higher" with a profound belief that every student, regardless of their background, deserves to reach their full potential. We recognise that the climb is different for each individual, and our unwavering commitment is to provide the bespoke support, guidance, and resources needed to empower every learner on their unique journey towards excellence.
Our inclusive commitment:
- Respect, empathy, and kindness: Respect remains at the heart of our community, with an explicit commitment to cultivating empathy and a strong sense of belonging for all students.
- High expectations and aspirations: We hold the highest standards and expectations for all students, consciously avoiding stereotypes or low aspirations for disadvantaged students. Our goal is to achieve outstanding personal growth and excellence for every learner across all aspects of school life.
- Curriculum, Teaching and Learning: Our ambitious, flexible and supportive curriculum is inclusive, where the provision of support to our most vulnerable students is at the forefront of everything we do. All pupils, including those eligible for Pupil Premium and those with SEND are at the centre of this approach.
- Celebrating every student: We celebrate the rich diversity of our school community and are proudly inclusive, recognising that every student, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), looked after status, or other disadvantages, brings unique strengths and perspectives that enrich the entire school. As such effort and progress are valued and rewarded in the same way as attainment.
- A zero-tolerance approach to discrimination: Our zero-tolerance approach to bullying and all forms of discrimination is underpinned by a commitment to safeguarding and championing the rights of every individual. We are especially vigilant in protecting the most vulnerable members of our community, ensuring a calm, kind, and supportive learning environment for all.
Specific support for vulnerable students:
- Targeted support is provided through evidence-based interventions and careful use of funding, such as Pupil Premium Plus.
- For SEND students, we remove barriers to learning with personalised plans and reasonable adjustments.
- For looked after and previously looked after children, our Designated Teacher acts as a champion, advocating for their well-being and academic progress.
- Discrimination is not tolerated, ensuring a calm, kind, and supportive environment for every learner.
- Strong partnerships with families are established to support every child's success.
