Climbing Higher

Religious Studies

It is our intent in Religious Studies to engage, inspire, challenge and encourage pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to answer challenging questions, explore different religious beliefs, values and traditions and develop a more rigorous understanding of the numerous religious traditions, beliefs and practices that are followed in our multicultural society. We want them to know how religious education promotes discernment and enables pupils to combat prejudice thus preparing them for adult life.  We aim to promote an awareness of the usefulness of RS to everyday living, to encourage enthusiasm for interest in the study of other people’s beliefs and to promote mutual respect, tolerance and understanding across different cultures and communities.

Students are encouraged  to develop their own ideas and opinions, be able to express these ideas in an articulate and coherent manner.  Another important life skill is listening to the views of others.

The RS curriculum at KS3 intends to fill in the gaps in knowledge from Primary school.  Often different schools teach different religions and some are not covered at all. At KS3 students cover all 6 religions.

Skills are developed from year 7 and assessments are of the same structure as GCSE exams questions.

Questioning encourages deeper thinking and students must understand in order to be able to attempt GCSE questions
